Key Insights
A constructivist approach to environmental empowerment emphasizes learning through experience and community engagement, allowing people to shape their own relationship with the environment. My work with the Virgin Islands Energy Office and Caribbean Green Technology Center furthered my understanding of how community involvement is crucial for sustainable change. These experiences have influenced my approach to environmental empowerment for communities and individuals.
Afrofuturism reimagines a future where Black communities thrive with nature and technology, challenging the social construction of race that excludes them from environmental decisions. It links racial and environmental justice as intertwined struggles for liberation.
Sustainable Interconnection is my framework for understanding how natural, social, and political systems are deeply intertwined in the pursuit of environmental justice. It recognizes that sustainability cannot exist in isolation; it must be integrated with equity, governance, and systemic resilience.
